This is for the battles we've won and the friends we've lost.

I was just watching Return of the Jedi because...well, it was on. And I was thinking, what if something else had beaten Star Wars there? Cause really, the main reason for Star Wars' popularity is not that it was so overwhelmingly great, but because it was the first Epic Science Fiction motion picture not to suck. It appealed to large audiences, and by not sucking, it became an unprecedented success.

But what if something else had gotten there first? What if it had been a major Fantasy motion picture that didn't suck? Or an animated film for adults, like current Japanese Anime? What a difference it would have made in our culture. This would be a very different country. It's amazing to think that something like Star Wars actually changed the course of history.
