I was speaking with my mom a bit earlier, and it finally dawned on me why the generation gap is so large these days. Our parents will never understand us, and we'll never understand them, becuase we don't have the same problems. We never will. All their problems had to do with there being too much. They had to fight and work, and they had all this stress, and it was always too much for them. Too much to bear, too much to fight, too much, too much, too much.

Our generation's problems (and the generations that follow us) are exactly the opposite. It's always too little, too little, just not enough. Nothing to believe, nothing to love, nothing in this world for us. There just isn't enough. Constantly bombarded as we are by sight and sound and touch and smell, and still we feel less than our elders ever have. So we cry our tears, and we cut ourselves, letting that last little bit flow out, so we can have true emptiness, but even that isn't enough. And we reach out to drugs and music and other people to fill ourselves, and we come out the other side still empty.

And the worst part is, the problems will never change, will always remain the same. The problems of too much to bear our forbears experienced, they still experience now that they're grown, now that they're old. And one day we will be adults, we will have children, we will be old, and gray, and slowly dying like our grandparents, and there still won't be enough. Children, and grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, and years and years of love, and always there will be something lacking. Something we wished for, but could never have.

Our world is too small for us, and as long as we live, it'll never be enough.
