The ring spun sitting atop his finger. His hand never moved as it spun, it's golden glitter mesmerizing in the firelight.
"Rings have always been a powerful symbol," he said.
"Is that why there are so many stories about magical rings?"
"Exactly, and some of those stories are true. And not just the stories about magical rings, but the simpler stories as well." The ring stopped spinning, and his fist closed around it. "Yes, rings are a very powerful symbol."
"So why are rings so powerful?"
"Were you not listening? You disappoint me greatly Julian. They are powerful symbols. No amount of magic can compare to the power a ring, a simple circle of metal, or stone, or what-have-you, has on the human mind. And that, too, is power."
"So you're saying a, a ring is more powerful than all the magic you're teaching me?"
"Well now, that depends on what you're doing. In some instances yes. And by drawing on that power when you enchant a ring, you can have something more than a simple magic ring. And this is the perfect place to begin your lessons on imbuement...."
